The Home of Underground House Music
I was 17 when I bought my first set of decks in 1991 after I started going to illegal rave party that
we had most weeks in Oxfordshire summer of 1991. Spiral tribe, Circus Warp,
Bedlam and Street level were putting on these party everywhere and I was totally
hooked. 1992 I started playing rave music out at house party's and raves.
1993 - 1994 the big split happened and DnB came on the scene, the criminal justice
bill was passed and that forced us out of the fields and warehouses. I started playing
House and Trance music in the clubs, I'd play Friday nights at the Palace night club
in Witney, Saturday nights the Coven in Oxford then often drive to London to play in clubs there.
1995 - 2000 in my early 20's I was on the London club circuit playing for Sunnyside Up at the
Chunnel Club then later at SW1 playing alongside Tony De Vit and John 00
Flemming. I also played for other promotions such as Mind over Matter, Sunflowers
and we also put on our own nights in and around London.
In 2000 in my late 20s and early 30s I went over to Thailand where I played at the fullmoon party on Hat Rin
beach Ko Pha Ngan, plus islands Ko Tao and Ko Samui.
2002 I visited Cambodia and noticed they had no western djs playing in the clubs. I
moved there and started playing the latest music from the UK and I really made a
massive impact. Cambodian djs at the time didn'tt have the exposure of outside
music other then what was going on in Cambodia, I stayed ahead of the game with
all my vinyl and cds. I was playing the tunes all the western backpackers wanted but
the Cambodia djs couldn't get. My mum would go to HMV and buy the latest cds
from Ministry of sound and send them over to me so I was up with the top tunes.
2003 is when I did my first radio djing, I was invited on to the only English speaking
radio station in Cambodia to do a show. All the younger Cambodians were studying
English and they wanted to hear a native English announcer. That's when I really
blew up over there, before long I was doing regular radio shows, voice overs for
other radio stations and also I did a few Cambodian TV commercials. I would do a
daily radio show Monday - Friday then play 1 club on a Friday night and 2 clubs on a
Saturday night, life was absolutely awesome I was living my dream!
I got married in Cambodia in 2006 and my wife became pregnant in 2008 so we
decided to leave Cambodia on a high and returned to the UK. We lived just over 2
years in the UK, I did volunteer radio shows on Radio Horton in Banbury hospital
which was good fun helping out in the community. We then decided to move over to
New Zealand in 2011 and I'm still living here now. I've done more work on the radio in NZ working for 2 different radio stations. Now I'm fully committed to playing house
and trance music out at our monthly club night called Taurangas House of Rave
party at VooDoo Lounge.
